Recommendation



Goal: Build capacity among all stakeholders for strengthening the critical role of school libraries and school librarians in teaching and learning.

Objective: Identify collaborative partners from school districts, higher education, public libraries and systems, professional
organizations, and business and industry in support of the school libraries in improving student achievement.

Objective: Increase support among school administrators in support of school libraries and school librarians in improving student achievement.

Suggested Discussion Items:
· Build awareness and support of the recommendations for school libraries in the Regents Advisory Council for Libraries’
__Creating the Future: a 2020 Vision Plan for Library Service in New York State__
• Build awareness of school librarians’ vital role in the increased student research requirements in the Common Core State
Standards.
• Recognize models in which school administrators who support school library programs are recognized (i.e. Administrator
Awards (AASL, SSL, affiliate) and through School Library Systems (i.e. BOCES Administrator Hall of Fame).
· Create models for consistent understanding throughout schools for the vision, respective roles, responsibilities and shared
accountability in collaborative teaching and use of educational technology to ensure students are prepared for college and
careers
• Share research-based articles documenting value of school library programs through social media

Guiding Questions:
What drives the decision making of Pre-Service Administrators?

What drives the decision making of school, district and administrators?

What drives the decision making of partner organizations and associations?

What do we want stakeholders (administrators, partner organizations) to know about how school librarians impact Teaching and Learning?

What do we want them (administrators, partner organizations) to know about school librarians?

What do we want them to BE LIKE about the role of school librarians once they have this information?
